Matcha Protein Latte

Are you a fan of matcha green tea?? Having trouble getting your daily dose of collagen in because you're avoiding coffee or smoothies? Then this drink is for YOU.

This recipe is sure to make your body happy. Matcha tea has a variety of health benefits (see more about this in my other post here) and tastes great plain, too.

Sometimes (Okay, maybe MOST of the time haha) I'm in the mood for something richer and creamier so I developed another latte recipe to incorporate collagen.

Why add collagen?

Collagen protein works wonders for healing your gut lining and promotes stronger joints, hair, skin and nails. It promotes skin elasticity, giving you a more youthful appearance. Who doesn't need more of that? The truth is, most people could benefit by having more collagen in their lives.

When I don't have bone broth available, or want something without flavor, I use Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides derived from grass fed cows. When cows are fed grass (their natural diet-go figure!) they provide the necessary balance of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids to manage inflammation. A powder is more effective than simply eating grass fed meat because it's highly digestible and in a concentrated.

Adding more collagen is simple. It dissolves well in warm beverages and blends great in cold smoothies. Try out this recipe using chai tea (the loose leaf variety) instead for a different flavor. Enjoy!

Matcha Protein Latte

Serves 1

Ingredients:

1C Coconut Milk Beverage (I like Trader Joe's)

1T Heavy cream (or full-fat coconut milk for dairy free)

½ C filtered water

½ tsp matcha green tea powder

1-2 scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides powder

5 drops stevia, or to desired sweetness (optional)

Procedure:

In a medium saucepan, heat the milks and water on medium heat until just boiling.

Remove from heat.

Add the matcha powder, collagen peptides and stevia (if using). Use an immersion blender or milk frother to blend the ingredients until bubbly and well-combined and no powder clumps remain. A regular blender works well too, but be careful since the liquid is hot!

Pour into a mug and enjoy!
